Hi,
Village Bicycle Project has inherited the surplus bikes from Boise Bicycle Project?s move to their new location on Lusk St.

So we?ve got about 150 bikes that need to be prepped, and trucked to Seattle for loading into a shipping container bound for Africa. We will accept donations of your unwanted bikes.

Help wanted this Sunday, July 12, from noon to five PM, and Monday July 13 from 6 till 9 PM at the Old Boise Rescue Mission, at 6th and Front Streets.? No previous bike repair experience necessary.

Here?s the details?

Prepping:? good bikes will have pedals removed, handlebars turned and seats lowered, reducing their profile so we can cram them tight into the truck and then the container.
Bad bikes will be stripped for parts.? We?ll send good parts, and the bad ones (especially frames) will go to scrap metal.? Africa has many bikes that sit idle for want of parts.? We can put more value in the container if we have parts to stuff into the spaces between the bikes.

Trucking:? Volunteers with vans, trucks and trailers are needed to drive all the bikes and parts over to Seattle.? We'll do this later in the month or in the first half of August.?? We can help with fuel costs if needed.

Village Bicycle Project has been shipping donated bikes to developing countries since 2000.? We?ve sent 40,000 bikes to date, in 91 containers.? Also, we teach bike repair to people in remote African villages, who then receive a subsidized bike.? These bikes are changing people?s lives, helping farmers be more productive, health workers see more patients, kids stay in school.? More info at villagebicycleproject.org

Cash donations are always needed as well.

So, four ways to help,
1)??? prep bikes for shipping
2)??? deliver bikes to Seattle
3)??? donate bikes to VBP
4)??? donate money to VBP

Thanks!
