All things cycling-related in the Boise, Idaho area.
Need recommendation for 2 days of riding.
I am a Nebraskan coming to visit my brother in August and do a couple of days of biking. I've done a lot of mountain biking in the past but have never been to Idaho. Here's my question: What are the best two rides in the Boise area that are 5-20 miles and are a combination of great trail and nice scenery? Thanks. I'm eager to hear from the experts.

No need to drive too far there are a lot of options starting from town. The Ridge to Rivers trail system is spread just north of town from Lucky Peak to the east to Eagle to the west. Most people access the trails from Camel's Back Park or the Military Reserve.
The lower foothill trails are all in open desert (no shade), so in addition to the August heat you may want to go up in altitude. I recommend going up Bogus Basin road and do the trails up there. Eastside is a local favorite. I haven't been mountain biking much lately, but it looks like there are a bunch of new trails up there. Any trail in the Ridge to Rivers trail system should be well-marked, but there are still a few like Sweet Connie which don't have any markings, but are still great.
I highly recommend the the Eastside-Sweet Connie ride. Depending on your fitness, you can choose to ride up Bogus Basin road (which will add at least an hour), or just do the car-shuttle thing.

Had a great trip. Spent a day exploring the foothill trails and the new Velo park (I think that's the name) with the terrain park. Didn't make it to Eastside-Sweet, unfortunately, as my brother and his family talked me into spending a day rafting the Payette river. We also spent a day at Sun Valley riding a couple of the higher mountain trails. It was a great vacation and wonderful mountain biking. I'm originally from SLC and have spent years biking the Wasatch Mtns and in the Colorado Rockies and your terrain is every bit as challenging and beautiful. I live in Omaha now where mountain biking translates to riding through corn fields. Not quite the same. Thanks again for your advice.

Cool, glad you had a great trip! Rafting on the Payette definitely was a good trade off. And mt. biking in Sun Valley I hear is great...lived here 8 years and still haven't made it up there!? I used to live in Utah as well, but like Boise much better. SLC and Utah County has gotten too crowded and sprawled.
