Boise Cycling

All things cycling-related in the Boise, Idaho area.

Hi all -

I am new to Boise and looking for the right cycling club.  Here is a bit about my cycling history.  There seems to a be a lot of clubs/groups in town.  Just trying to pick the right one for my current level and interest.

45 years old male
Recreational rider
I ride a Trek Project One with a Campy Triple - essentially a Trek 5500.
Currently averaging 17 mph on solo rolling hill rides - It can be 18-19 if I could lose 10 pounds.
Comfortable in pace lines
Lot's of experience doing cross-state touring rides - I've done about 20 of them.  RAGBRAI, Ride the Rockies, Utah, New Mexico, etc.
I also have experience as a self-contained long distance tourist.
Not racing at this time.

My current goal is to prepare for a 500 mile cross-state ride in 2011 (supported).

Any guidance is appreciated.

Chris

Hey Chris, welcome to Boise!

The best way to figure out which club to go with is to attend one or two of their group rides. Most club's group rides are open to the public so riding with and talking to them will give you the most insight as to the "flavor" of that particular club. There are links to most local clubs on the left-hand side of BoiseCycling's home page. I've tried to keep that list up to date, but if there's a club which doesn't have a link there, let me know and I'll update it.

Personally I'm a member of Intermountain Orthopaedics/Lost River Cycling and we have club rides every Sunday at 11AM. This weekend we're meeting an hour early for those who missed our membership party on Tuesday. So even if you're not going to ride, you can meet some of our folks at Big City Coffee at 10AM. Big City Coffee is located 1416 W Grove St, Boise. Just look for people in orange lycra. :-)
